Fix Those Dishwasher Leaks and Never Go Back to Hand Washing
Dishwashers are not just a convenience, but can sometimes are a necessity. Depending on your home, you could have children running around and playing, or company over that you cannot ignore. Having a dishwasher saves you time, and can give you that piece of mind. But if you have dishwasher leaks or other problems, you need to know how to fix it fast.
Older dishwashers are more likely to leak due to certain parts malfunctioning or becoming damaged from age and use. When you notice water pooling around the outside or your dishwasher, it could be from one of three primary issues, and it might be something you can fix on your own.
Dishwashers are meant to hold in all the water inside, and that is accomplished by a rubber gasket that lines the door. That seal helps close off your dishwasher, keeping the soap and suds inside. If that rubber gasket tears, or if age has made it brittle, then that could be the source of the leak.
A pipe or a hose is the source for all of the water in your dishwasher. As long as that connection is tight, then you have nothing to worry about. However, that may not be the case if you notice wetness around the water source. That connection could be loose, or a gasket could fail, creating a leak in that area.
Lastly, water can pool up beneath the dishwasher, and the cause could be one of a few things, either the water inlet, the drain, or the seal around the pump. The cause of water beneath the dishwasher could happen if the hose clamps are loose or failing, if the gasket is cracked, or if you have a broken pump.
Sometimes you may be lucky to find the cause of the leak quickly, such as simply tightening a loose connection. Other times, the issue may be more than you can handle.
