Prepare Your Furnace for the Fall Weather

With the sun setting sooner and cooler temperatures making their way in, fall is the time when we start bundling up inside our cozy homes to stay warm. This means putting away the air conditioners from the summer and relying on your furnace. Before you become reliant on your heater though, you should follow a few fall furnace tips to be sure it runs smoothly over the next couple of months.

Swap out the old air filter for a new one. By regularly replacing the air filter, you can heat your home more efficiently, which will cut back on what you pay for your utility bills. And because your furnace is running more efficiently, it means that it can also extend the life of your furnace.

Check your thermostat and be sure that it kicks in at the right time. Thermostats not only control how warm or cool your home is, but they also detect the temperature in the room to know when it needs to be on. If you have set your thermostat for a certain temperature, but the place still doesn’t feel comfortable, there might be an issue with the thermostat.

Test the fire alarms in your house. This should already be a frequent and regular habit, but more so now that you will be using your furnace and other heating equipment.

The National Fire Protection Association reported that 15 percent of home fires are due to heating equipment. Be sure that the areas around your furnace and other heating equipment are clear of things that burn, such as furniture, clothing or beds.

Most importantly, schedule a time for an annual furnace checkup. The professionals at Sunrise Heating and Plumbing can handle any and all furnace and air conditioning systems, and we pride ourselves in providing nothing but exceptional customer service.
