What Should You Do When Your Kid Flushes a Toy Down the Toilet?
Children are adventurous, and they will explore and play in any room that they can crawl or walk to, and that includes the bathroom. They will bring with them their favorite toy and send that item on its adventure, down the toilet. Your hands are already full with the child that you do not need a clogged toilet to mess up your day.
Lucky for you, there are some things you can do on your own to remedy the problem before needing to call a plumber.
It is best to know exactly what you are dealing with in your clogged toilet, so ask your family members what it might be that is down that drain, and then you can more readily approach the situation. Then scoop the water out of the toilet bowl while still leaving enough that will cover the plunger, if it needs to come to that.
If you can see and reach the toy, go ahead and pull it out. Or if you can’t get your hands on it, use a wire hanger and try to hook onto the toy. With some precision, you should be able to fish the toy out from the drain and start thinking about how to prevent this from happening again.
But if that stubborn toy is still stuck, or is beyond your reach, then it is time to pull out the plunger. With a couple of thrusts, you may be able to dislodge the clog and send it down the drain, but do not overdo it. Being too aggressive with the plunger may end up causing further damage to the toilet bowl.
